zooplus.co.uk Review: Where To Buy Dog Food & Treats

One of the first questions we faced when we brought our dachshund home was “where is the best place to buy food” where we could get not only the best food for him, but also find products that were competitively priced. Even small dogs like dachshunds that don’t require as much food as larger breeds can be expensive, as the cost of all of the regular items like food and treats adds up over time. This is especially relevant in the current economic climate where the cost of living is such an important topic, so keeping the cost of basic essentials like dog food lower can help.

When looking at options of where to buy dog food for your dachshund (or any other breeds) there are a few options to consider. Local pet shops can be a good option to find specialist foods or if you need to seek advice from knowledgeable staff in the store on what foods or products to buy, this can be a good choice. Most supermarkets stock a pet food section, and do tend to have competitive prices and regular offers, however the range is usually not as extensive, and may not be the best choice for more specialist diets and product ranges. If you need to purchase food for specific diets or health conditions, you may be able to purchase these from your veterinary surgery, however this may be at higher prices than elsewhere, so it’s always a good idea to shop around.

Online retailers have become a convenient and popular choice for purchasing dog food, as they provide detailed product descriptions, customer reviews, and the convenience of home delivery. Online shopping for dog food also allows you to compare prices, read reviews, and explore a broader range of options, including specialist diets and brands that might not be available locally in pet shops or supermarkets. We have found that online shopping has been the best way for us to find a wider range of options for our dachshund, at cheaper prices, and with the convenience of not needing to leave the house.

We first started shopping from zooplus during the pandemic, where more online shopping became a necessity, and we found this to be a reliable, convenient and affordable way to purchase food and treats for our dachshund. Many of the prices are discounted on standard RRPs, with economy bulk packs available in some products, while delivery has always been fast and reliable too. This is really important to me when shopping online!

I’ve mentioned before in my post on the best food for dachshunds that my dachshund loves Lily’s Kitchen Wet Food and zooplus are often one of the most competitively priced retailers on these products. We find the multi-pack trays are the best value and our boy loves having a mixed variety of flavours as it keeps his diet varied.

We also buy the Lily’s Kitchen Dry Food to mix with the wet food trays, with our boy preferring the Duck, Salmon & Venison flavour. Zooplus stock a wide variety of options in the dry food, with sizes from 2.5kg through to 12kg depending on the product, and economy packs available if you are bulk ordering. This makes it easy to stock up at a good price.

It’s also a great choice of retailer for dog treats as well. My dog loves Yakers chews which can be on the more expensive side when it comes to dog treats, but there are often discounts available through zooplus which can make this a more affordable buy.

Another point to note about zooplus when it comes to being more money conscious, is they often discounts through their zooplus savings plan. For one off costs of either £2.49 (for one year) or £4.99 (for three years) at the time of writing, you can save 3% on repeat orders, which can definitely save you money if you’re ordering regularly. They also offers a zooPoints loyalty programme where you can earn 1 point for every £1 spent across the site, which can then be used to put towards the cost of a specific list of reward items. Using zooPoints, we have been able to redeem our points against several treats for our boy such as chews and even toys like ropes.

I would never recommend any product or retailer that I didn’t believe offer great value or service, and from our experience ordering from Zooplus, I have found this a great place to purchase food and treats for my dachshund.
