Best Treats for Dachshunds: Treats My Dachshund Loves

If there’s one thing that dachshunds love, it’s food! Especially in the form of whatever yummy treats are on offer. When we first got our dachshund puppy, we were quite overwhelmed by the variety of dog treats available to buy, so I thought i’d compile a list of some of our favourite picks that our boy has loved.

Lily’s Kitchen Dog Treats

As we already get our dog food from Lily’s Kitchen, it made sense to also try out a variety of their treats for our dachshund too. Some of his favourites have included the Organic Cheese and Apple Training Treats, which are a good small size for dachshunds and puppies, especially for use when training. He has also enjoyed the Beef Mini Burgers and chicken alternative Chicken Bites.

Lily’s Kitchen also stock a range of festive treats in the run up to Christmas, and for the last two years we have purchased the Festive Turkey Jerky which is a big hit with our dachshund.

Pedigree Dog Treats

We have also tried a number of different treat products from Pedigree. When we brought our puppy home at 8 weeks old, his breeder included a packet of Tasty Minis Puppy in his puppy pack, so we initially used these as training treats for his first few months with us. Another favourite treat in this house are the Tasty Minis Nibbles with Cheese and Beef which again are nice and small, so a great size for dachshunds, especially when training.

Our boy also loves the Dentastix Fresh which we give him mainly for the dental benefits, but he loves them for a treat too.

Fresh Treats

Alongside pre-bought treats, we will also occasionally feed the odd bit of fruit or vegetable as a treat for our dog. His favourites are broccoli, banana and yogurt, which are all fine when given in moderation.

Gravy Bones

Another one of our dachshunds favourite treats are gravy bones, he loves to crunch them up. We often get the Pedigree Biscrok Gravy Bones, however most supermarkets also sell a cheaper own-brand alternative which are usually just as appreciated by our dog.

Bones and Chews

As mentioned in my post on the best dog toys for dachshunds our boy is a very strong chewer, so we treat him to various bones and chews from time to time to keep him occupied, as well as to help with teeth cleaning. His favourite are the Yakers Dog Chews but he also loves a classic bone like these Mini Roasties too.

Whatever treats you choose for your dachshund, be sure to feed them in moderation as part of a healthy and varied diet.
